The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, December 27, 1992

 

A very nice day except it was cold. It did warm up in p.m. Dorothea here all day. I wrote to Esther and Zak. Dorothea came and cleaned because she want able to get here yesterday because she went down to Lorraine’s. I didn’t do much as usual. Brogan came in late p.m. and I helped her to put puzzles together. Arnold took BJ home after Carmen got through work. Walt up for coffee this morning.

 

 

 

Monday, December 28, 1992

 

A fair kind of day. I did the washing and the regular work. Other odd jobs. I got the supper tonight. Walt and David both sick with a touch of flu. I watched TV in p.m. We did. Carmen called and brought up Cameron while she did a customer. Betty not very good, her gout. Cameron got his shots today. It made him kind of sickish all p.m. Carmen had to go to work tonight. Dorothea and Betty Smith up to North Conway shopping this p.m. Jason called late this p.m. He called to see about fixing Billie’s truck. Barry, his father, has multiple sclerosis in the eyes, Dr. thinks he will get over it.

 

 

 

Tuesday, December 29, 1992

 

A cloudy dreary day. Kind of misty rain. I done up the work. Put away some candies etc. Jason came to work on Billie’s truck. I got the supper tonight. Betty having a problem with her foot. I’m getting my magazines read.
