The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A very nice sunny day. David came down for coffee. I done the washing so the sheets would be ready for Dorothea to make the beds. She came, made the beds and cleaned up the whole house. Done a good job. Helped Billie, got the supper. Carmen and Bro called tonight. Dorothea and I finished the puzzle today.

A quite nice day, I done regular work. Walt up for coffee. A very mild day. I went for a nice long ride with Betty and Walt up to see Debbie and Jay’s new house. Then on to Sweden, Lovell and down Knights Hill and in over to pleasant mountain and onto Denmark. Got to see all the new places over Knights Hill. A very nice ride over to the ski tow at Shawnee Peak. No one here all day except when Betty came and picked me up.

A very nice sunny day but a cold wind. Well I done up the work and got ready for the lady to come to see about us getting some help with the work. Dorothea, Betty and Carmen were here also. It was quite encouraging from what she said. I looked at some more albums.
