The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Tuesday, January 19, 1993

 

A nice sunny day all day but it was quite cold and some wind. Carmen brought Cameron up in forenoon. At noon time Brogan got off the school bus and both children was here till almost supper time. Baby got quite tired and fussy. Betty cleaned up the house, changed the beds. Also she got the supper. So we had company all day. We worked on the puzzle today. Walt worked on his new place of business.

 

 


 

Wednesday, January 20, 1993

 

Well it was a nice sunny day not so cold. In p.m. it got colder and windy. In late p.m. Carmen came, we had Cameron all p.m. Then Carmen came. Carmen got supper. Arnold came for supper. He worked on the puzzle after he came and in the evening. Carmen took Brogan to the Girl Scouts. She got her certificate. David came for coffee this morning. INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT.

 

 

 

Thursday, January 21, 1993

 

Another nice sunny day, cold in a.m. In p.m. it warmed up. I worked on the puzzle today, didn’t get too much done. Carmen came and got the store list, she done the shopping. I got the supper and washed the dishes. She got a few things at the store so it was easy getting supper.

 

 

 

Friday, January 22, 1993

 

A rainy snowy day. I done up the regular work. Then I worked on the puzzle. Dorothea came and she and I worked on it after supper and finished. Tonight at about 7:30 PM the ambulance came and got Ilan and took him to the hospital. He fell out of bed, couldn’t get up. He ran away today, his mind is gone.
