The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Friday, January 8, 1993

 

Cloudy all day. I didn’t get up very early. I felt much better. I went in, rested a little while in p.m. Dorothea came early this morning. She got me some breakfast and done up the work. Billie’s lunch. She and I worked on the puzzle. In the evening she called in for a minute, we finished the puzzle. Carmen came this morning, came again in evening and brought Billie supper. Got me a dropped egg on toast.

 

 

 

Saturday, January 9, 1993

 

A fair kind of a day, temps were good. Well I’m back to normal and feel very good. Dorothea came early and was here all day. She done a lot. Same as she does every day. Made a very good apple pie. We had it for supper. We had our baths. Everything was cleaned up and she got a good supper. BJ over this weekend at Carmen’s. We put the puzzle put away and got another one out. I washed my hair today.

 

 

 

Sunday, January 10, 1993

 

A fair day. Sunny most of the day. It’s got cloudy in p.m. Walt up for coffee this morning. I done regular work. I wrote to Esther and Zak. In p.m. Dorothea called also Brogan called in p.m. Dorothea brought us Italian sandwiches for supper. I started another puzzle today.

 

 

 

Monday, January 11, 1993

 

A fair day, cold. I did a dite of washing. Got a pork roast ready to go into the oven. Betty came up and got the supper. We had a good one. I worked on the puzzle some this p.m.
