The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A very nice day. Very cold and windy. I washed the sheets. Betty came and cleaned. She went to town to get a new battery for my light in the glass cabinet. Also a four-way switch for the kitchen. Brogan here in p.m. She and Betty went down to check Brogan’s bucket where she feeds her wild animals etc. Walt here for supper. Betty had a good supper. Tom called with a box of fudge his mother sent up, it was very good. Betty and Kim went to New Hampshire to shop for the party.

A quite nice day, not so cold. I done regular work. Carmen and Cameron came. Cameron stayed here while Carmen went to town to do the shopping. She went home and came back later and got the supper. Eclipses of the moon. Brogan saw it. She thought it was quite a thing, quite excited.

It was nice and sunny all forenoon. Then it got cloudy. I worked on Christmas cards today, got two papers read. Carmen came late in p.m., got the supper. She didn’t get her car today. Arnold went down to see Nick today. Nick is doing quite well. Never will be able to talk. Susan will do my hair tomorrow. Cameron was so cute tonight, he is such a good baby. He is a beautiful child.
