The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 14 - 17, 1992

Monday, December 14, 1992

I did the washing and regular work then I finished the cards. I got supper started. Betty came, she had been to the doctor. She had hurt her back. She came later. Got it on the table. I baked a loaf of bread, was very good. Betty made gravy (beef). It went so good with the bread. Betty had the kids, she and Walt, they were very good. Carmen went with Arnold to see about Nick. Joy hurt her leg and had to go to the doctors. Then she had to go to the hospital to get some relief.

I didn’t do much today. I done the wash. Carmen brought Cameron. I watched him for her while she did a customer. She cleaned up part of the house. Then she went down to Betty’s and they cleaned the barn and the hens. She went to town, had another customer. She came here and got the supper. She had to go to work tonight. She does so much. I wish you didn’t have to work so much. Kim called this p.m. I was so glad to see her. She don’t get a chance to come anymore. They both are so busy. These two great-grandchildren are so delightful to have here or to see so often. A very nice day.

Another fair day. Betty and Carmen and Brogan set up the Christmas tree. It is beautiful. It looks so nice with the lights. Betty finished the cleaning. Carmen got the supper. It was very good. I worked on some more Christmas cards today.

RAINED. Hard all day. I didn’t do much, a few odd jobs. Betty came in p.m. and got the supper. Brogan didn’t go to school. Sick because of the mess in school. We had a very good supper. Lori and her two girls call today.
