The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Tuesday, February 23, 1993

 

Well what a day. We had cloudy and snow. Then it broke away and some sun then clouded up and got snow (heavy) all p.m. At about 5 o’clock it cleared away. I hope it will be better tomorrow. I did the washing. Then I got my letters ready to go. David took my letters up with him, mailed it in his box. Carmen took my other one when she went. David down for coffee. Carmen and Cameron here in p.m. Betty came in forenoon and cleaned. In p.m. we had the kids, baby was sick with a bad cold and TEETH. I pity him so much. Tom plowed.

 

 

 

Wednesday, February 24, 1993

 

A cold partly stormy day. I didn’t do much today. I did get some reading done. Carmen came and went to town. I took care of the kids a dite today. I enjoyed having them. Cameron is so cute. I love having him here. Carmen to town and done the shopping. Also got the supper tonight. It was a good one. She made up pudding, Angel cake delight.

Very cold clear day. It was sunny all day. I done my regular work. Betty called this p.m. She wrote a nice letter to the owners at Balsam Hotel in regards to Uncle Lewis. She sent them some snaps he took while he was working there at the time. Very good. Carmen and son called a little while this p.m.

 

 

 

Friday, February 26, 1993

 

A very sunny day and it want cold. We had this door open in p.m. We watch soaps in p.m. Dorothea came in p.m., she got supper. Betty called in p.m. I done my regular work in a.m. Then I got the bnews read. I didn’t see the kids today. Carmen working tonight. Dorothea went to see Judy McAllister this p.m. She is weakening fast, not at all good.
