The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Wednesday, March 4, 1992

 

A most beautiful day. I did the washing and ironing. Zak did the shopping. He was gone for a long time doing other things. Down to his fathers in p.m. Brogan was better today. She came up here in p.m. Not too good. She was very glad to see her mother when she got home tonight. Always is but not feeling too good. She was very happy. Zak got the supper tonight.

 

 

 

Thursday, March 5, 1992

 

Nice sunny most of the day. I done regular work. Betty called and asked me to go to see the shelter with her. It looks very good as far as they have gone. I hope and pray they can do very well. I saw Carmen and Brogan. She is better. She got some gifts from her Mammy Willette. Then Betty and I went to Norway where she got some things for her office.

 

 



 

Friday, March 6, 1992

 

A very nice sunny mild day. Brogan here today. Carmen went with Arnold to see Nick. Zak done the housecleaning. I got the papers read. I read some of my (blank).

 

 

 

Saturday, March 7, 1992

 

A rainy day all day and steady. I didn’t do anything except read papers etc. After I get the work done David came down for coffee. Carmen called a little while.
