The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 9 - 12, 1992

 

Thursday, January 9, 1992

 

A cloudy dreary day most all day. In late p.m. it began to snow. Only a few hours, got about 3 inches. Zak gone with Betty and Walt today. Betty to the dentist. Zac and Walt official business. Got home at about 4 PM. I worked on puzzle. No one here. In late p.m. Dorothea called. I did the washing, also I ironed.

 

 

 

Friday, January 10, 1992

 

Cloudy when we got up but about daylight began to clear. Zac cleaned up the whole house today. Tom plowed. Dorothea here. She and Brogan came for supper and brought the roast pork. Very good. I worked on the puzzle. Nick called with Carmen.

 

 

 

Saturday, January 11, 1992

 

A beautiful day. Very cold and windy. David down for coffee. I worked on puzzle, got quite a lot done on it. Zak up with Betty and Walt to Lewiston. He had a good supper for us. Tom cleaned out some snow.

 

 

 

Sunday, January 12, 1992

 

A nice sunny day, it was still cold. Walt up for coffee. Zac watching ball games. I wrote Carlton, Phyllis and Lina.
