The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 14 - 16, 1992 Valentine's Day

Friday, February 14, 1992 Linda Ann Smith’s birthday

I did the washing. I got the Valentine cards ready for the kids, Nick, Billie Joe and Brogan. Well I had a big Valentines day, 15 pounds of chocolate. A beautiful red rose and a beautiful bouquet of assorted flowers. Also a cute picture of Brogan. She is a beautiful child. Zak cleaned up the house, it looks very good. Betty and Betty called this evening. Well Kim came and brought one of the boxes of chocolates and a beautiful card. Betty S a box of chocolates. A box from bro. Also she gave me a small heart-shaped foam and a 5 pound box from Billie and a 5 pound box from Carmen and Zac. A very nice day. Also a nice sunny mild day.

A nice sunny day. I done regular work. Got the breakfast etc. David here for coffee and visited.  In PM it began to cloud up and began snowing in p.m. Carmen and Brogan called. Arnold took Nick back to school. He was quite distant when he was here. Then when he got back to the school he had a bad spell.

Cloudy about all day. I got rest of the B news read. I wrote to Esther. Zak up on the late side. He went to Oxford with Carmen. Dorothea came and done Billie’s nails. She made a good visit. Walt up for coffee this morning. A dreary day.
