The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice sunny day. I done up the work. Carmen came and done the shopping. She got the supper. A very good one. Kim made a very good macaroni and cheese. We liked it very much.

Thursday, April 9, 1992 New Job

A quite nice day. I done up regular work. I washed. Carmen and Brogan called and Zak. Carmen going to work tonight from 3 to 11 PM. Tom and Kim came up and had sandwiches. They came up on the new bike. Tom is taking her out for a birthday dinner tonight. Today Arnold got a new job working for the town of Bridgton. I ironed today.

Friday, April 10 1992 Tractor gone.

Carmen and Brogan called this morning on the way to school. Bro looked very nice. She is a beautiful child. Her new haircut makes her look younger, more childish. Carmen had to work tonight. Billie gave her $100 today, also $100 to Jeff. Well the tractor went today. They came and got it and paid cash. Eight thousand. That boy was very pleased and will give it the good care as Billie always did. Billie gave his sisters 100 each and his nieces and nephews each 100 and me.

A miserable day. Snow about 3 to 4 inches, it is a mess, rain at times. David came down for coffee. Then Dorothea and Zak came and done all the work. Washed floors, got the supper. The house looked very nice. Zak got some lunch. Billie gave $100 to Zak today.
