The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Tuesday, February 25, 1992

 

Cloudy. Carmen and Betty left about 6 AM for school. It was a fair day. We are having cloudy stormy weather. Next every day, cloudy, snow or sun. I did a wash. Zak downtown today, in evening to Portland. Not much to do or going on these days. Brogan here.

 

 

 

Wednesday, February 26, 1992

 

A fair day, quite mild. A lot of sun. I made out the (blank). A nice sunny day. I worked at the desk. Susan came over today. Zak downtown and done the shopping. He got a Mrs. Smith Apple pie, had it for supper. Very good. Brogan here today. She was so pleased to see her mother when she got home tonight. Zak gone all evening. I don’t know where. Plowed snow.

 

 

 

Thursday, February 27, 1992

 

It was a nice day. Carmen and Brogan went downtown. I did a dite of desk work. Also I wrote some addresses.

 

 

 

Friday, February 28, 1992

 

Nice and sunny in the morning when we got up. It clouded up in early afternoon. I did a wash and I did the ironing. Zak down and got Brogan at school. Carmen gone with Arnold. Betty came up and paid me $160 for phone. I put it into the bank. Dorothea worked on her kitchen today.
