The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 6 - 8, 1991 BJ's 11th Birthday

 

Friday, September 6, 1991 BJ’s birthday today 11 years, Cindy left

 

A very nice day. Sunny all day. I did the ironing. Went to Norway with Carmen and Brogan to the doctor to get her papers for health records. We went down to Smedburgs, got some vegetables. BJ went to her mother’s this p.m. BJ is 11 years old today. Betty gone to get her hair done. Cindy left early this morning, California, to go to school for 11 weeks.

 


 


 

Saturday, September 7, 1991

 

A nice sunny day. David came down for coffee and visited this morning. I done regular work, made out in order for a few gifts. A surprise. Zack came home for the day. Brogan called for a little while. I got the supper. Eva left for home today.

 

 

 

Sunday, September 8, 1991

 

Zack stayed up to his home last night. Chris Watson came to see him. A very nice sunny day. Good temps. Walt up for coffee and Zack came up later for coffee. Jason came and did a lot of jobs. Today Carmen had a birthday party for BJ. A nice party and gifts. She was pleased.
