The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Friday, November 1, 1991

 

A rainy, cloudy and a great day. Carmen came and done some cleaning. Got quite a lot done then she had to go to work. Brogan to school today.

 

 

 

Saturday, November 2, 1991

 

A dreary day. I done regular work. A dite of washing. David came down for coffee. Carmen came for a little while. Betty here. I went down there a little while. Walt down to see Zac. I got bacon and eggs for supper. Carmen out with Arnold, his kids over to their mothers this weekend.

 

 

 

Sunday, November 3, 1991

 

Cloudy and foggy when we got up. Walt up for coffee. Carmen came and got me. I went up to her house to see her new china closet. She and Kim came in eve.

 

 

 

Monday, November 4, 1991

 

A fair day. I did the wash. Carmen came and went to town and down the errands. Also Betty came for a little while. We cooked a roast beef for dinner for tonight. Very good meal. I got my pills today. Carmen moved her hens up today.

 

 

 

Tuesday, November 5, 1991

 

Betty and Carmen left about 6 AM for school. Bro down here with her grandfather. I sent Norma’s card and Betty Robinson a sympathy card. Also I got Esther’s letter off.
