The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 28 - December 1, 1991 Thanksgiving Day

 

Thursday, November 28, 1991

 

A nice day, on the cool side. A very nice Thanksgiving and delicious one at Betty and Walt. Betty, Walt, Carmen, Brogan, Zac, Dorothea, David, Jeff, Betty S, Billie and me. It was so good. Kim and Tom came in p.m. Jeff showed us all of his snaps of the past year. We stayed for sandwiches and till evening. A nice day. We all missed Fern.

 

 

 



 

 

Friday, November 29, 1991

 

A nice sunny day. I did the washing. Zac did the cleaning etc. Bro here this a.m. Carmen to her doctor for a checkup. Heard the heart beat .

 

 

 

Saturday, November 30, 1991

 

It was cloudy when we got up this morning early. Carmen and Brogan came early. Zac and I went with them to Oxford to Ames to do some Christmas shopping. I got the heft of mine done. Carmen got a few more things. We got home at about 10 AM and her Mammy and Aunt Della came and got her and took her to the Auburn Mall where she saw Santa and out for lunch. She was very pleased and enjoyed it all. It rained hard in p.m. Zac to Lewiston with Betty and Walt and done some more shopping.

 

 

 

Sunday, December 1, 1991

 

Walt up for coffee and made a brief visit. Zac down to his mother’s after breakfast to help her rearrange furniture. Billie out today with Jason, down near the coast where Billie and Lawrence used to go.
