The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

At last it was sunny all day. On the cool side. I worked on an order for Hannover House. Carmen here in p.m. She got the supper. Very good. Brogan to school. Carmen, Betty, Charlene and Brogan over to Lewiston to shop for Carmen’s uniforms for her school.

Well right and early this morning Carmen off to school. Her first day. Betty’s second time. I wish them the very best of luck. Zack back to work at his old job. He is a good person. I like him so much. A very nice and sunny day. I worked on orders.

Wednesday, October 9, 1991 TARA TO ETERNAL SLEEP

Today a very sorrowful day for the Horton’s. Today they had Tara put out of her pain and suffering. She is out of it. She has been a good faithful dog to them for a long time. We all felt a tug of the heart at the time. Poor Walt and Kim faced it alone. Betty and Carmen at school. Zack at work. Carmen likes her work very much or schooling. She will do very well. I wish her the best of luck.

Foggy and cloudy early, the sun came out later. I wrote a letter to Esther. I got my other orders off. Betty and Bro cleaning us outside and Arnold taking care of things. Carmen here and got supper. Had a good one. Steak salad etc. etc.
