The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

October 15- 17, 1991 Brogan Turns 5

 

Tuesday, October 15, 1991

 

A fair day. Bro has been here today. She and I played dolls etc. She is very good. The Thomas and Hill trials are over and Thomas won his confirmation by a small margin. I cooked moose meat for Billie’s supper. UGH.  I don’t like stuff like that around, he said it was good and tender. Betty and Carmen left early this morning for school. Brogan says she missed her mother and she cried a little when she got up this morning.

 

 

 

Wednesday, October 16, 1991

 

Brogan came at about 11:30 Arnold watched her all forenoon after she got home. I did a washing and regular work. Then after Bro came she and I played dolls with her dollhouse, also colored. She ate a good lunch. Walt took her to school this morning then went and got her. She missed her mother a lot. She went home with Arnold to play with BJ.

 

 

 

Thursday, October 17, 1991 BROGAN ALLYSA HORTON WILLETTE 5 YEARS OLD TODAY

 

She was home today here at Nanny’s and at Grammy and grandpa’s. She had a spaghetti and meatball supper for her birthday supper and BJ was her guest and Billie, Carmen and I was there also. Also a birthday cake. She was very excited and happy all day. She was up here part of the day. Betty and Carmen came and cleaned the house. I got the ironing done.
