The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Walt up for coffee. Didn’t do much. Kim called and Carmen. They had been shopping. Bro called later.

 

 

 

Monday, November 18, 1991 DOROTHEA HAD TEETH PULLED AND NEW ONES

 

Well today Dorothea had her teeth pulled and new ones put in. Betty called also Carmen and Brogan. Betty and Zac shopping today. Also Carmen did some. I did a washing today. Zac doing very good work. I mended a shirt for him. A very nice sunny day.

 

 

 

Tuesday, November 19, 1991

 

A very nice sunny day. I wrote Esther and sent a card to Eleanor. Brogan here all p.m. Billie and Zac out riding around. Kim and Tom here in p.m., Tom stayed for supper. BJ was here for a few minutes. She showed me the box her grandmother gave her. Zac went to his pool meet tonight. Our stove or furnace went out today. Dorothy has said that Fern didn’t have a very good day.

 

 

 

Wednesday, November 20, 1991 Esther 72

 

Esther’s birthday. Zac downtown and done the shopping. Also he cleaned the breezeway up today. Tonight got a call from Dorothea. Fern is quite weak. Not at all good. So I went up with Carmen, Billie, Kim, Zac and Brogan. We stayed or I did until 1:30. She was quite weak.
