The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Wednesday, November 13, 1991

 

Esther called and talked about the new plans. She is in favor of it all. She is going to write to Betty soon. It is cloudy and snowy here this morning. Brogan went to school then here until Arnold came for her. We played dolls and cards etc. etc. Zac to town and did the shopping and washed the windows. They got home about 7:30 from school.

 

 

 

Thursday, November 14, 1991 eyeglasses

 

Another cloudy day. Billie to the eye doctor and got his glasses. Zack cleaned and polished all the woodwork, it looks so nice and clean. Shiny. I made some brownies. Zac got good supper. Brogan here today. She misses her mother so much.

 

 

 

Friday, November 15, 1991

 

Another cloudy day. Some rain showers. Today Zack done the cleaning, dusted and all very nice when he got done. Brogan here after school for rest of the day. Carmen and Betty home kind of early from school.

 

 

 

Saturday, November 16, 1991

 

David came for coffee this morning. Betty and Carmen home today. They both are tired and trying to get rested. Betty called also Carmen and Brogan. Kind of a long day.
