The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 2 - 5, 1991

Monday, December 2, 1991

I did the washing. Well we got a miserable day. A quite nice day, a bad storm is coming tonight. I did the ironing today.

Tuesday, December 3, 1991 No School, Trinna

A bad storm, snow, sleet and rain. Betty and Carmen or Brogan, BJ and Nick didn’t go to school. I went down to Betty’s and Betty S, Carmen and I help them wrap gifts. It was good being there all day Back Home. Today Trinna was put to sleep. She has been very poorly since Tara’s death. It was good she got out of her suffering. It was so hard to see her go. A very nice dog. We all loved her and her being around.

It was cloudy when we got up. It cleared away and a very nice sunny day. Today the last hostage left for home. Betty and Carmen back to school. All ice and glaze. Brogan to school. Zac to town doing the shopping. Bro came here after school until Kim came and got her. They went to North Conway where they went grocery shopping for their party.
