The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

October 11 - 14, 1991

Friday, October 11, 1991

A nice day. Sunny. Carmen came and cleaned up the house. Today we watched the trial of Thomas and Hill, very interesting. All day and lasted until 10:30 in the evening. I made French toast for supper. Tonight I got a very nice surprise, a call from Zack. It was good talking to him. He seemed very happy and enthused. He has a new job and it requires some drawings. He is a very good guy. I wish him the very best in what he does.

In a.m. I watched the trials of Thomas and Hill. Very interesting and enjoyed it, but in p.m. they put the sports on. I worked at papers in p.m. Carmen and Nick came, she went to town for us. David came for coffee.

A nice day, on the cool side. Walt up for coffee. I done up the work than we watched the Thomas Hill hearing. Kim and Tom came and made a visit. Carmen brought Bro and then Arnold picked her up.

Monday, October 14, 1991 Columbus Day, a holiday.

Well the Thomas and Hill case on today. I washed and ironed today. Carmen here, got the supper. Jason came back today and brought moose meat for Billie. The Richardsons got two moose up in the wilds of northern Maine. I read some more of Fern’s diaries today. Had to play dolls with Brogan.
