The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

August 5 - 7, 1973

Sunday, August 5, 1973 A Beautiful day

It dawned nice and sunny and cool. We got breakfast and done up the work. Went to town. About 12, Esther, Walt, Cliff, Betty and all the children came and we went to Naples. We took a ride up the lake on the Songo River Queen. It was a beautiful day and a very pretty ride. On our way home we called at Jack and Sylvia’s. Didn’t see Jack though. Came home and got ready and went down to Betty’s for a barbecue chicken cookout. It was given by Esther and Betty, Fern brought the watermelon. Betty and George had a good time. Also all the family played badminton etc. Yates, Demings, Crooks, Crooks, Thomases, Hortons and Bill Walker were the guests.

Monday, August 6, 1973 a very nice day

It was a good day. We got our work done up and got ready and went to Dorothea and Dave’s. From there we left and went in Bill’s car to Andover Mass. to call on their cousin Hector Keith. But he wasn’t at home. We called to see Agnes Berdette. We had a good time and Dave is such a good driver.
