The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, November 1, 1970 Mowed lawns last time

Another nice day weatherwise. Billie finished the ditch. Got the lawns mowed and mower put away for another year. I got a darned old cold etc. Bill mowed lawns, out in car couple times. Billie finished up at Chet’s also. Pete came to Walt’s to work today for last time. I sure hope they get everything all done down there. I called at Betty and Walt. He called (?). No one here today.



Monday, November 2, 1970

Nice sunny day. I’m still not too hot but okay. I went down to see the new apartment. Betty, Zak and I down to get Kim from school. Saw Susan. Tarr came to Walt’s but didn’t stop. Hatches tractor came but no one stayed. Kim up with me in p.m. Zak had a haircut. It looks good. I did a little cleaning in my kitchen.



Tuesday, November 3, 1970

My throat still awful sort. Joe Hatch worked at Betty and Walt. They dug ditch and worked underneath barn. I cleaned some more in the kitchen.



Wednesday, November 4, 1970

I finished the kitchen. Joe Hatch worked at Walt’s.
