The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

July 10 - 13, 1969

Thursday, July 10, 1969 $5.00

We had some showers. On the cloudy side. I worked at Dorothy’s in a.m. and at Mrs. Drew’s in p.m. Betty made a chop suey for supper, it was very good. I called at Ferns in evening for a little while. Phyllis and girls called a little while in evening.

Friday, July 11, 1969 Cloudy and showers

Kind of cloudy. We took Kim to the MM Center in Portland. Dr. said she is doing alright. Got home about three. Got supper. Bill started his two weeks vacation tonight.

Saturday, July 12, 1969 Showers

A bad rainy day, showery all day. Heavy shower in p.m. I baked beans, went to town, up to Evelyn’s. Bill kids and me. Billie with Lawrence. Walt worked most of the day. Nona and Kathy Smith came up to Kennard’s today for a little while.

Sunday, July 13, 1969 $10.00 Rained hard all day, greens from the gardens

A miserable day, cloudy, wind blowed and rained hard all day. Done up the regular work. Got a chicken (stewed) dinner. No one here all day. Bill watched TV. Billie worked or went with Lawrence. Betty and Walt downstairs most of the day. Kim don’t feel too good. I wrote to Esther, Jeff and to my TV magazine. Mr. Drew called and paid me. Had Swiss chard greens from the garden.
