The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 29 - December 3, 1959



Sunday, November 29, 1959

Storm snowing. Worked all day. Kennie and Dot called, also Raymond was over and here for supper. Bill worked for Don Chadbourne today. Sure are having a good time with Jeff.



Monday, November 30, 1959

A nice day in a.m., but cold. I washed. Dot, Lorraine and Wanda Jean called. Also Barb and Wesley. Dorothea over to Barbra’s all day into evening. Very cold tonight.



Tuesday, December 1, 1959

A nice day. I got the clothes in and ironed. Dorothea made a batch of cookies in p.m., and in the evening some more to send to Dennis. Dr. Skillin came today to see Jeff. In late p.m. Dawn called with Betty. Dorothea bought some new wastebaskets and a sink drain and a plant pot.



Wednesday, December 2, 1959

A nice warm day. Jeff a lot better. We didn’t do much work. Dorothea had the car, she and I to town and called at Ferns.



Thursday, December 3, 1959

A nice warm day. We washed. Jeff a lot better today and is so cunning.
