The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Wednesday, September 30, 1992

 

A cloudy cold day. I got the breakfast, washed the dishes, made the beds etc. I done a few odd jobs. We watched programs in p.m. Betty called in a minute this morning. I had Cameron a little while this morning while Carmen had a customer. Betty got supper. Carmen gone to work from 4:30 to 8:30. Walt, Carmen and Bro here for supper. Brogan enjoyed her supper, macaroni and cheese.

Another cold windy day. I got a card off to Carlton and family. Betty got the supper. I didn’t do much today except I went to Lewiston and Oxford with Betty and Carmen. Did some clothes shopping for the kids. Came home and I had a Italian sandwich. Billie had spaghetti and meatballs.

 

 

 

Friday, October 2, 1992

 

A quite nice day. The checks came and Carmen came and took them down to cash. I made out the bills. Dorothea came and got supper. Betty called in this p.m. She has school friends up to camp this weekend. Tom called for a visit at supper time. Brogan called in for a little while. The trees are very pretty today.

A beautiful day, very colorful. A quite nice sunny day, mild. Betty and her friends are up to camp. Dorothea came and cleaned the house.
