The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

It was a quite nice day. I didn’t do much as usual. Billie mowed the leaves today. Dorothea came and got the supper today. Carmen called for a little while. I had Cameron. He was very good. Richard Ward came and worked on the little house. Arnold has done some painting on it. Billie Joe came over to Carmen’s for the weekend.

A most dreary day, cold, windy and rain. I wrote to Esther. Tom called a little while also Carmen, Brogan and BJ. I got the lunch and the supper. A long day. Betty sick again. I’ll be glad when she is better.

Cloudy all forenoon. Sunny in p.m. I did a wash and took care of them. Verna called in p.m. We talked. Carmen and Cameron called. Verna brought some clothes for Cameron that Kathy’s boy had. Betty was here and got the supper. I am making new plans. It is too much for them with their own obligations. Some things they can keep on doing at their own conveniences. The weekly cleaning, making the beds. Carmen do the shopping and bank for us.
