The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

October 4 - 7, 1992

Sunday, October 4, 1992

A very nice sunny day. The leaves are very bright colors this year and it is very nice out with the sun shining. I wrote my first letter today to Esther since her return to Florida. Carmen and children came. First time we have seen them for three days. They visited for a little while. Also Dorothea and David came and invited us to go for a ride. We went to Waterford, call at Ava Grover’s. Then on over to North East and West Stoneham and then to Evergreen Valley, up to WW Durgin’s grave. Stopped at several places of interest to us. It was a beautiful day and ride. Billie enjoyed it very much. As we all did. Dorothea got the supper and brought it down. Betty had a very nice weekend for her company at camp. They had a very good time.

Wednesday, October 7, 1992 MINNIE TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE

Another one of those nice days. The cattle went today, I’m sorry about the calf leaving. Wade came and got them. The beef will be dressed. Billie and David went and got the heart, liver and tongue. Dorothea took me to the eye doctor. The pressure is okay now. Minnie was taken to the hospital this morning. Heart problem. Carmen called, she had a customer this morning. She had to work tonight. Betty got the supper, very good. Dorothea and I called at Brud’s today. Cattle went.
