The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 3 - 6, 1992 New President!

 

Tuesday, November 3, 1992 PRES. WILLIAM CLINTON

 

Rain all day. Hard at times. I wrote out the bills and done some other things at the desk. Watched the TV in p.m. Tonight William Clinton became PRESIDENT OF UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. A NEW PARTY NOW WILL BE TRYING TO BRING OUR COUNTRY TO THE TOP AGAIN.

 

 

 

Wednesday, November 4, 1992

 

What a relief to have a change in the US government. I hope the country will now soon begin to come back. Today I washed. Done regular work. Carmen came, she got the grocery list and also the papers for the bank. David came down. Dorothea to her dentist in Portland today. She went to see Judy McAllister. She is very sick. Betty worked on her housecleaning. I went down to see her house, it looks so nice.

 

 

 

Thursday, November 5, 1992

 

A mostly cloudy, a little sunshine today. I worked at the desk. Carmen and Cameron called. Betty cleaned her kitchen today. She had the kids this p.m. after Carmen had to go to work at three. Betty came up and got the supper. Watched TV all evening. It rained tonight.

 

 

 

Friday, November 6, 1992

 

A quite cold day. I done regular work. Worked at the desk also Carmen and Cameron came. I kept Cameron while Carmen took her cat to the vet for a shot. Also Betty dropped in on her way to Oxford to do her grocery shopping. Brogan got her birthday package from Zak. A Batman backpack, a wristwatch, pencil carrying case and other things. She was so pleased with it all. I got Norma’s card off.
