The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

It was on the sunny side all day till afternoon than a bad bad thunder shower came. We went up to camp for Walt’s birthday. A first cook out for the season. It was quite sunny and hot when we got up there. After a while it began to cloud up, we got a very bad shower. We ate at the lake. This being Cameron’s first cook out at Twin Oaks with the family. His sister Brogan began her trips to camp at an early age also. Walt got a lot of cards and gifts. Had a nice day. Charlene, Esther and Cliff was there to attend also. We did a washing also. Cameron Alexander Crook Horton, his first day at a cookout at camp.

After a lot of cloudy dreary mess outside it finally cleared away and was nice. Esther went to Naples with Susan. Cameron dropped in for a little while. He is a beautiful child. Betty came, got the supper. I done some odds and end jobs. Dorothea came and took Cliff’s blood pressure. Susan visited a while. She came back and took Cliff out after supper for a visit at McSherry’s over to Fryeburg. It has been quite a nice day.

Well this morning when we got up a bright sun appeared. It has been many days since we saw that when we got up. I did a wash. Carmen came and brought Cameron. I had him a while. Betty came and cleaned. Esther went to town shopping while Carmen did the grocery shopping. Dorothea to Portland with Barbara while Philip had a operation. This has been a very nice sunny day. It is supposed to be rest of the week. Susan came over this evening.
