The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 31- June 2, 1992 Baby Shower for Carmen

Sunday, May 31, 1993

 

A big day at the Ridge House. Kim made all the preparations and gave Carmen a baby shower. She did very well from the beginning to the end. Carmen had to work at the hospital. She got a lot of very nice and useful gifts and money. Kim had the house very appropriately decorated. She had very nice refreshments. Everyone had a nice time and enjoyed the food. Guests: Martha Flint, Dorothea, Betty H, Lorraine, Wanda, Susan, Joy, Lori, Cindy, Debbie, Charlene, Lida, Zenya, Brogan, Alyssa, Meghan and great Granny Crook. Walt up for coffee.

 


 

 


Monday, June 1, 1992

 

At last rain. We had a good downpour of rain today. People are very thankful. I did the washing. Water leaked in on back porch. My walking condition is a dite improved. Zak is still working. I hope it will last all summer.

 

 

 

Tuesday, June 2, 1992

 

It was all clear skies when we got up. I done up the work, got ready and done some odd jobs. I did reading. Betty came and got the supper tonight. Zac up this morning. He didn’t have to work today. Got to Thursday. She had a very good supper. Ate on the back porch. Carmen and I to Oxford and Norway. Carmen had more turkeys come. Second batch of turkeys.
