The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, April 19, 1992

 

Well after a foggy morning the sun came out for Easter. I wrote to Esther. Tom came and got the albums. A very nice Easter dinner at Kim and Tom’s today. We got cards. Tom’s mother, sisters, their husbands and children where there, Tom’s stepdaughter, Walt, Betty, Betty S and Carmen and Arnold and Nick and me where their guests. It was a very delicious meal. We brought Billie’s supper. A very nice dinner. All enjoyed it very much. Kim is smart to do so well. Carmen got back from work in time to eat. Also Arnold and Nick ate with us.

 

 

 

Monday, April 20, 1992

 

A nice mild day. I washed. Zak came up for coffee. Billie and Jason out doing some shopping for things he needs. Got me some milk and cream. Zak went down and got me some carrots. I got a pot roast to going. Betty and Walt here for supper. Betty finished getting it and she and Zak washed dishes. Jason here and worked all day. We enjoyed listening to the scanner day and night, very interesting. We hear where Tom is and what he is doing. Dot Smith moved into the nursing home down here today. She likes it.

 

 

 

Tuesday, April 21, 1992 HOT, Ceilings

 

Jason here again today. He did the raking alongside of the road. It looks very clean and nice. Well it cleared away and it became a real hot sunny day. We was opened up out on the back porch. It was very nice. Carmen and Bro came. Also Betty. Dorothea, Zak and Tom dropped in. Well Kim did the ceilings today, they look very nice. Also she got lunches. Betty got the supper.
