The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Then she and Carmen moved Brogan into her new bedroom. Brogan is very pleased. Carmen’s room will be ready in about a week then she and Cameron will move up.

Dorothea came and cleaned so we can go to the parade tomorrow. She cleans the house up very good. Got a very good supper. In p.m. Dorothea, Jeff and I went to Gray to get the stand and sidetable. The stand wasn’t done. We went to Ames store and I got the cushions for my new chairs. Also Dorothea got the varnish to do my table with.

Old Home Days at Harrison. I went with Dorothea and Betty S. It was a very good, very good parade. It lasted a long while. When we got ready to come  home we went over to Oxford to get some peas and cukes. On the way we saw a bull moose laying dead beside the road over in Waterford. Too bad he had been hit by a car. Came home, got some cooler clothes on. Shelled the peas for supper. Also shelled some other ones Carmen and the kids picked. Dorothea had such a good supper. Zack is moving today to Norway where he is working. A very nice day, it rained early this morning. David came up for coffee. Dorothea and David here for supper.
