The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Betty and Dorothea came again today and done some more cleaning. They got it nearly all done, will finish tomorrow. It is or was warm and sunny today. Betty got the supper, a very good one, steaks. I did my ironing and more washing. Betty, Billie, Arnold cleaned out all this stuff up over the breezeway. What a mess. I will look all the boxes over and keep what we want saved. David came to see the new heifers.

House is all cleaned and done tonight. Well today my two daughters finish cleaning my house. It looks so nice and shiny, neat and clean. They did such a good job, it is so hard work for them. Next year I hope I can do it or get someone else to do it. It is too much for them. They are too good for their own selves. No one else would do as good a job. Carmen to town and done the shopping. Brogan to school. Dorothea and Betty came early. A nice sunny day. I looked over some boxes out on the back porch today that we found upstairs last night. Most of it was Carmen, Kim and Zac school papers. They were good papers.
