The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 16 - 18, 1992 Camp Cleanup

Saturday, May 16, 1992

It cleared off in the middle of the day. Dorothea came and cleaned up, washed kitchen and bathroom floors. David came for coffee. Betty up early and up to the camp for the cleanup. They got it all done outside, put in the docks. Moved a tiny building. They had a lot of people helping. Also friends of Betty and Carmen from the school. I didn’t go up. Will go up later. I wrote to Esther.

A very nice sunny morning. I done up the work. Walt up for breakfast and coffee. I did my work, wrote to Betty Milne. Well we went to the cemeteries as far as E. Stoneham. It was a nice ride. Billie went too, he enjoyed it very much. Betty Smith and Dorothea went too. We also went down to Forest Hill down here and up to Joy’s than to our own. We had a nice long ride.

A nice day after the sun came out. On the cool side. I did a big wash today. Carmen called, she put them away for me. I read the papers and watched TV soaps in p.m. Carmen had to go to work at 11 tonight. I started the supper. Betty came up, got it and did the dishes. Chicks and turkeys
