The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A quite nice day. All day war news on TV. Watched it all day. Carmen came, did her regular work. I worked on puzzle. I did my ironing. We all hate this war mess.

Mostly today. I watched war news on TV. Nice day. Did some more puzzle. This war is bad. I hope it’s won’t get much worse. I worry about Billie Deming and also quite concerned about Zack. Not much going on here except it got kind of cloudy in p.m. Carmen came today and cleaned. Also the supper. She always gets good meals. The speech therapist came to see Billie this p.m. Fern got new glasses today. Dorothea came this evening for a while. They all was at Joy’s tonight. They worked on a project for Joy. She is fixing a cupboard for her TV.

Nice and sunny in forenoon. Got kind of cloudy in p.m. I done regular work. David came for a chat and  had a coffee. Today I made a cake and a pie, Butter Crunch, chocolate cake and chocolate frosting. First time for a long time that I have done that. Carmen came late in p.m. and fed and gave his hens water. I got some papers read, not too many.
