The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice sunny day, the cool windy side. Betty and Brogan and Zack called. Carmen took Billie to the eye doctor to have his eyes checked. Carmen have to go to the hospital to get him and drive him to the eye doctor. I hope he will change and be settled down and live a healthy normal life. If he has to go through the rest of his life in such a state, I feel sorry for him and hope he can get help. We had guests for supper. Nick and Billie Joe Smith.

Sunny in a.m. Cloudy in p.m. I done Christmas cards all day. Betty gone shopping. Zak up for breakfast and he and Walt dropped in for a minute. Dorothea down to Barbara’s working on some Christmas gifts. Carmen and Kim having some folks who work at the hospital for tea in p.m. I got the money to pay Walt for the taxes or half of it. I hope Billie is better and don’t get sick being so upset all the time.

A mostly cloudy day, it cleared in p.m. I done some more cards and made more fudge. It wasn’t the very best either. Zak up this morning. Carmen came and got supper and done up the work. She went to Windham to see a lawyer today. The ball has started to roll. She is upset about that. Then Walt and Zak are having problems to get the tractor to go. It is very disturbing.
