The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 19- 22, 1969

Monday, May 19, 1969

A cloudy rainy day etc. We went to the bank, down to Raymond, Naples and Windham looking for a place we found advertised in the paper. I came home, did some desk work. Kids played good.

Tuesday, May 20, 1969 Pigs

Very mild. Rained hard all night. Rained today. We got the papers read, done up the work. It cleared off late tonight with very heavy showers. Billie, Walt, Carmen and Kim got the pigs tonight. Myron Fitch came and did the garage floor over. He worked late.

Wednesday, May 21, 1969

We had a nice day, got a big wash done. Betty down to hospital to see Mrs. Eleanor Parker. Garage floor looks better. Kim outside today.

Thursday, May 22, 1969 Dorothea and Jeff called

A nice day, windy. We washed the sheets and cleaned the house all up. Betty did her ironing. I did mine. She called on Mrs. Parker again this afternoon. Went to the bank today. Also over to Twitchell’s. Dorothea and Jeff came up for a little while.
