The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 15 - 18, 1969

Saturday, March 15, 1969 Sent Film, Papa’s and Blanche’s Birthdays

Partly cloudy. I done up my work. Washed kitchen floor. Billie got ready and went ice fishing for smelts. I talked with Betty. All is okay. I paid phone bill, bank payment etc. Tonight Bill and I went for a ride down on the other side of Long Lake to Naples and down to Dorothea’s. She and I went to Zayre’s shopping. I sent film.

Sunday, March 16, 1969 Mild 50 – 60

A nice mild day. Sunny. I cooked a roast pork dinner. The Thomas family was here. Had a nice visit with them. Jeffrey on the blue side, he misses his father. Aunt Ava over for a little while in afternoon. Fern and Lloyd called in evening.

Monday, March 17, 1969

Partly cloudy, cooler. 15 above when we got up. Sunny in a.m., clouded in p.m. On the cooler side, snow banks still high. We can just see the tops of cars along the road in some places. I went to town with Fern, Lloyd. Came home. Washed. Cleaned the smelts Billie got down to Dresden. Saltwater ones. They were very good. Talked to Betty, all is well so far.

Tuesday, March 18, 1969

It was snowing lightly when we got up. I did up my work. Ironed, mended and washed the bedding. Had a boiled dinner.
