The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Friday, April 25, 1969 Finished My Cleaning

Some sun today. I finished my cleaning today. I washed. Lloyd called. Carmen to school again today. Bill outside painting. Walt and Betty got here about 4 PM with all their household goods. We had a ham supper. They were quite tired. I didn’t work for Dorothy today.

Betty and Walt moved. Today Betty and Walt moved to Maine from New Hampshire. They got here about 4 PM. Walt came first, Betty came with the car about 4:30.



Saturday, April 26, 1969

Betty and Walt still settling and unpacking. I done up the regular work, did a dite of cooking. Betty, kids and I to town in p.m. Fern up for supper.



Sunday, April 27, 1969

Very nice mild day. Betty and Walt did some more settling. And a very big wash, clothes dried good. Bill painted. Billie did his fencing. Fern, Lloyd called in evening.



Monday, April 28, 1969

A nice day, on the cool side and in p.m. very warm. We did some more washing and ironing. Betty did a big ironing. Walt went to work today on his new job in Portland. Bill back to work after a week of vacation
