The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 16 - 19, 1969

Monday, June 16, 1969

Househunting today. Found a nice new house, ranch, three bed two bath down in North Windham. They are talking about taking it. We called at Dorothea’s. We didn’t see her. We went way up to Scarbrough to look at a house.

Tuesday, June 17, 1969

Clear and hot. Today we went out looking for a house or an apartment because the house was too expensive. We called at Dorothea’s. She has been sick, back trouble and tired all out. Kids good all day. We had a lunch at Dairy Queen in North Windham.

Wednesday, June 18, 1969

Quite mild and warm. I worked at the Dearborn’s cottage. Went early in a.m., 6 AM. Came home, Betty not feeling very good. I got supper, made a pie. Washed etc. No luck on houses today. Called Dorothea this evening.

Thursday, June 19, 1969 Root Beer

Partly cloudy. A strong South wind, warm. I done up regular work. Carmen sick a bed. Kim not too good. I ironed Mrs. Dearborn’s curtains. I washed, I did a lot of other things. We made root beer. Robert Stanford called. Betty to town to get some things. Fern, Lloyd called. Betty and Walt now plan to build. I called Dot tonight and talked with her.
