The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Cloudy rainy day. I finished at Aunt Ava’s. We did her sheds. I came home, took a bath, shampooed my hair. Got supper. Not much else. Bill worked at Gordon’s tonight. They made the window blinds for the house. $17. Lloyd traded cars, 1966 Chevrolet.

Friday, April 11, 1969 $4.50

A beautiful day. I worked at Dorothy’s. Came home, went over to June’s, got my hair set. Lloyd got his new car today. Very pretty. I went to town grocery shopping. Also shopping for Kim’s birthday. Snow went a lot today.

A beautiful day. Billie didn’t have to work. He took me to town. I did rest of Kim’s birthday shopping for me and for Billie. We get the paint for the window blinds (yellow). In p.m. Bill painted some blinds and put some trim on garage and breezeway. Lloyd called, Gordon called. Fern up for supper. I wrapped Kim’s gifts.

A beautiful day. We got up early this morning, got ready and left here at 6:55 AM. Got Aunt Ava and drove to Concord. They just got up. We got there at 8:55, exactly 2 hours. Kim had a good time and a lot of gifts. She was very cute. Betty took Aunt Ava around over Concord. Came home, left at 4:30. Got home at 5:45. Fern and Lloyd up in evening.
