The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 19 - 22, 1969

Wednesday, March 19, 1969

Another one of those cloudy nasty, rainy and snowy days. A mess. All the snow can’t even see cars in the road yet. I cleaned cupboards and our closet in living room. Betty called, they may move to Maine. I’m waiting for a sure answer.

Thursday, March 20, 1969 SNOW

A miserable looking day. Snow all around. Trees, wires and everything all covered. Bill called to work at 5 AM. Well, I did my work. Went to town with Fern and Lloyd. Got about 2 inches of the snow. Bud Main’s funeral today.

Friday, March 21, 1969 $4.50

A miserable day. It snowed hard all day, about 4 inches of the mess. I worked at Dorothy’s. Came home. Cleaned the stove inside and out. Washed some windows, ironed and washed kitchen floor.

Saturday, March 22, 1969 Billie 38

A pretty good day. I baked beans, made rolls. Bill and I to town in p.m. I got Billie’s birthday cake and a few things at grocery store. Fern up for supper. Betty’s family came about 8 PM, got them supper. All are okay.
