The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 6 - 9, 1969 Easter

Aunt Betty in CT on Easter

Sunday, April 6, 1969 Easter

A beautiful day. Up in the 50°. Snow settled a lot today. I didn’t get up too early. We had breakfast. I did up the work. Bill worked outside on the driveway, put in some gravel. Billie up to Chet and Lil’s. I got a good Easter dinner. Fern and Lloyd are the only ones here today.

Another nice day. I worked at Aunt Ava’s helping her clean in a.m. Came home, washed, got my supper to going and watched TV. Soap operas. Got a very pretty Easter card from the Horton’s and two cute pictures of the girls.

Tuesday, April 8, 1969

Clear and mild. I worked at Aunt Ava’s, did her bathroom and kitchen. Back still lame. Came home, washed and ironed. Got my supper.

Wednesday, April 9, 1969

Another nice mild day. I worked at Aunt Ava’s again, we did the spare bedroom and living room. Sent Kim’s birthday card. My back is better today. Came home, started my supper. Made a pudding. Lee Quimby’s birthday. They had a party for him on Dialing for Dollars and Swap Shop.
