The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 6 - 9, 1964



Friday, November 6, 1964

A very nice day. In p.m. done up the work and a few odds and end jobs. Betty, Carmen and I to town and down to Jean's. In p.m. Betty and I done the shed chamber all over, it looks much better. I got to look the draws over up there.



Saturday, November 7, 1964

A nice day. Cooked, baked beans, made custard pie, apple pie, rolls, bread and brown bread. Betty and I to town in p.m. Billie worked at Lawrence's butchering. Fern up for supper. Betty and Mike over to Donald and Jeanette Roake's in evening. Carmen wouldn't go to bed early.




Sunday, November 8, 1964

A fair day. Been busy all day. Up at 8:30 AM, got breakfast. Began on the windows. Cut up the meat. Lloyd, Bill and Billie. Bill and Billie put the storm windows on. All the meat in the deep-freeze. Kennie, Dot called, Fern and Lloyd. Betty had company, Jeanette Roake's.



Monday, November 9, 1964

A nice day. Done up my work and went to the laundry mat and we did our washing. Came home, got ready and got a roast beef supper.
