The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 18 - 21, 1964

Wednesday, November 18, 1964

A nice day. I cooked. Today we got a letter from Dorothea and pictures from George. Fern and Lloyd here. They saw the pictures. Well, this morning Betty didn't have to get up to take Bill to work. He now has his own car.



Thursday, November 19, 1964

Cloudy all day. I done up my housework. Made a pie this morning. Milan called this morning for a little while. Joy here in a.m. Betty and Mike hunting today. Joy and I down to the Cemetery in p.m. Stones look very nice. Billie worked for Lawrence.



Friday, November 20, 1964

Cloudy and some rain showers. Got my work done up real early and made out some orders and figured bills etc. Joy and kids called. Betty, Carmen and I to town tonight. Hams came back from Norway today. Betty sent the order to Sears today. I washed in PM.



Saturday, November 21, 1964

A nice sunny day but real cold. I did a dite of cooking. In p.m. Bill took Jean over to Waterford. Came back here and she stayed for supper. Also Fern and Joy's kids here. We had a delicious supper.
