The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, November 7, 1993

 

I’m okay now. A very nice sunny day all day but very cold. Walt up for coffee. Carmen came and did her work. All of the family down to Betty’s for a bacon and egg breakfast. Then they had a meeting. I wrote to Esther. I got all the papers read. Dorothea came about 4 to get the supper. She had a good one. Tom dropped in for a little while, we had him eat supper with us. He is still on his crutches.

 

 

 

Monday, November 8, 1993

 

A very nice sunny day. I did some odds and end jobs. Got caught up on my reading. Carmen here this morning. Done her work, vacuumed and cleaned. The therapist called (Marianne) and worked on Billie’s arm today.

 

 

 

Tuesday, November 9, 1993

 

Billie to the first appointment at the dentist for his teeth. Betty took him. He has got to go about four more times. Betty brought the baby up here while they hauled the hay. Carmen and Arnold got about 250 bales of hay, they bought it from Saliba. A quite nice day. Carmen and Arnold down to see Nick today. He has made an improvement, lost 45 pounds. Betty got the supper tonight. Bro didn’t come home on the bus. She had a hard time about it when she got here. She got quite shook up.

 

 

 

Wednesday, November 10, 1993

 

Carmen came this morning. Also Marianne. Billie has got to see another doctor. Carmen done the shopping. She and Betty went to Norway, done shopping etc.
