The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

No school today. Carmen here this morning. She did all her duties. She came in p.m., got a very good supper. She went to town for us today. They posted the land up to Carmen and Kim’s against the hunters

 

 

 

Friday, November 12, 1993 Tom’s birthday

 

I know he will enjoy his day. Carmen came and done all the house, looks nice. She did some windows. Got Esther’s letter today. Walt and Betty have gone away up into Vermont state about the stove deal. I took my bath this p.m.

 

 

 

Saturday, November 13, 1993

 

Well it started out very sunny but got cloudy and was real cloudy all day. Also it got quite cold. Betty, Carmen, Charlene and two kids went to Cornish antiquing. I didn’t do much today, got the papers read. Carmen came and did her work today. I got my letter written to Esther. Carmen and Cameron was here this p.m. or at supper time. Well Susan came and did my hair today.

 

 

 

Sunday, November 14, 1993

 

It was a partly cloudy day, didn’t do much today. I got some of my reading caught up. Carmen was the only one here today. Ronald called this evening. Dorothea came and got the supper. Walt didn’t come for coffee. He don’t feel very good. Haven’t seen Zac today.
