The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 23 - 25, 1993 Thanksgiving

Tuesday, November 23, 1993

It has been a cloudy day, on the cold side. I did a dite of wash. David came for coffee. Carmen came, got her work done. Got Billie ready to go to the doctors etc. The man from Lake Region Furniture came and fixed  Billie’s chair. Betty came and got the supper tonight. Brogan had company after school, two of her friends. We like the new chairs very much. Walt and Zac worked on the furnace house today.

It has been a cloudy day, on the cold side. It was only a half day of school today. Brogan got home about 1 PM. Billie to the therapist. Betty and Brogan lost a kitten today. He got crushed, they think the horse did it. Carmen has been very busy all day cooking and preparing for the dinner tomorrow. Then to cap it all she came up here and got the supper. A tunafish casserole she made, it was very good. Lori and her two girls called here this p.m. I’ll be glad when tomorrow night gets here for Carmen’s sake.

Today we had a very nice Thanksgiving dinner at Carmen’s put on by Carmen and Kim. It was a very good dinner cooked to a perfection. They worked hard and did very well. Guest were Walt, Betty, Ray and Patty, Betty Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and daughter, Arnold’s parents, Tom, Kim, Zak, Carmen, Brogan, Cameron and me. It was cold but a nice day. A bad automobile crash on 302. One boy got killed, McIvers,  a senior in school. I took my bath this morning, did a couple of jobs.
