The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A quite nice day after cloudy in early a.m. Well it has been a very long day. Up early and at Carmen’s around 7 AM. We watched the kids come down the stairs. They got and got and got so many things and was quite excited. Cameron got a car he can ride in. Brogan got her white horse she wanted so bad. Also much much more they got. I was so pleased I could get in to see it all. Also Tom and Kim, Arnold and Carmen got a lot of clothes etc. etc. I can’t begin to remember it all. Then we got through early and went to Betty and Walt’s. Zak, Betty and Walt opened their gifts. Very interesting and I enjoyed it all. Then at Betty’s we all had a most delicious turkey dinner. Then home I came, they cleared out my tree etc.

It was cloudy when we got up. Then it began to break away after we got a covering of snow. Zak came, had coffee. Also Tom came. Carmen came, did her work. I wrote to Esther. I hope she is okay from her fall of last week.

Very cold. I done a wash. Carmen came and done some things. She want here very long. Then she went and didn’t come back. She made a couple phone calls. And made out a check, put some money into the checking account. She took the kids to the doctors for checkup. I wish Carmen had more time. So much needs to be done or I would like to have done. I wish I was more able to get around. Betty had some people come down to the camp today. It’s too cold for that. Zak gone to Portland to look for work. Very cold.
